Homeowners Can Turn to the Experts to Embrace Energy Efficiency

Strengthening its position as a leader in innovative heating and cooling systems, Carrier Corporation, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), introduced the HYBRID HEAT dual fuel system as a solution to high gas prices. With fuel and energy costs continuing to fluctuate, homeowners remain apprehensive about properly heating their homes and the solution is a HYBRID HEAT dual fuel system. A HYBRID HEAT dual fuel system is a fuel-saving alternative to traditional heating and cooling systems that combines a furnace with a heat pump, rather than an air conditioner.

“For homeowners, the end of inexpensive heating gas and oil and the concern over energy efficiency has become a reality,” says Jeff Warther, product manager. “A HYBRID HEAT dual fuel system is the next phase in responsible treatment of our environment by reducing energy consumption, which will help to lower monthly heating bills this winter.”

Happy Homes, Healthy Environment

The secret behind a HYBRID HEAT dual fuel system is Carrier’s state-of-the-art heat pump. A heat pump works as an air conditioner in hot weather, but can also reverse the process and heat the home when cold weather arrives. Rather than burning fuel to generate heat, the heat pump moves heat without a flame, making it a more efficient method of heating a home. Additionally, some Carrier heat pumps feature non-ozone-depleting Puron® refrigerant which will help homeowners prepare for the elimination of R-22 in 2010, making them an environmentally sound option.

Traditionally, heat pumps, which operate using electricity, are most popular in warmer regions where temperatures do not typically dip as low as they would in colder climates during the winter months. In colder regions, homeowners frequently need a furnace because temperatures often drop below freezing in the winter. However, with the elevated price of oil and gas, heating with a gas or oil furnace may be more expensive than using electricity.

The rising price of gas and oil has spurred a great interest in alternative heating solutions this winter. A HYBRID HEAT dual fuel system will allow homeowners to save money for years to come, since the system chooses which source of heat is most economical, based on the cost of gas and electricity and the current outdoor temperature.

Carrier’s HYBRID HEAT Operating Cost Calculator also helps homeowners save on heating costs by pinpointing the exact operating levels for the most cost and energy efficient use. The Operating Cost Calculator is a software program the dealer uses to enter information about the oil and gas prices in the homeowners’ area, and based on those costs, it will give the homeowner annual savings estimates of a HYBRID HEAT dual fuel system. The tool will also calculate the precise temperature at which the system should switch from using electricity to gas, in order to ensure maximum savings.

Carrier’s Line of Healthy Home Solutions Includes Carbon Monoxide Alarms

Carrier Experts Challenge the “Silent Killer” with Advanced Protection

Carrier Corporation, a unit of United Technologies Corp., offers a Carbon Monoxide Alarm as part of their Healthy Home Solutions product line. Carrier’s Carbon Monoxide Alarm helps protect homeowners from acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning by alerting them of dangerous levels of carbon monoxide inside the home.

“Carbon monoxide is likely the most toxic substance you will come into contact with in daily life— in your home, at work and in your car,” said Kent Kuffner, product manager, IAQ. “Carrier’s Carbon Monoxide Alarm provides peace of mind to homeowners with its ability to detect and warn about dangerous levels of the toxin inside your home, all from a company we know and trust.”

Clear and Present Danger

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, carbon monoxide poisoning, with an estimated 1,500 deaths per year, is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America. Carbon monoxide, commonly known as the “silent killer”, is a colorless, odorless gas produced by incomplete combustion of fuels such as natural and LP gas, kerosene, coal, wood and charcoal. Any fuel burning device, including appliances, automobiles and fireplaces can produce CO.

If dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are present in your home, you may not even know it. The flu-like symptoms of CO poisoning (including severe headache, dizziness, mental confusion, nausea, or faintness) can be debilitating and deadly. Placing a CO alarm near main sleeping areas where it can awaken sleeping occupants if it alarms, with additional units installed on each floor, can greatly reduce the homeowners’ risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Peak Performance for Ultimate Family Protection

Carrier’s Carbon Monoxide Alarm, with a rechargeable lithium ion battery, uses sophisticated electronics and unmatched sensor technology to detect and record the levels of CO circulating in your indoor air. The homeowner is protected during power outages and is never required to change the battery. The functional, durable design includes a large, easy-to-read digital display which monitors the current CO level in the home and is updated every 15 seconds. The continuous digital display will record CO as low as 30 parts per million. When dangerous levels of CO are present, a loud, audible alarm alerts you and your family, automatically.

This top-of-the-line product offers enhanced control capability for maximum performance and reliability. The device boasts peak level memory allowing health care professionals to quickly assess the level of exposure in the event of an alarm. Homeowners can check to see if their CO alarm is functioning properly with the simple push of the test/reset button. The Carbon Monoxide Alarm reflects Carrier’s dedication to producing products that offer homeowners security and peace-of-mind in their everyday lives. It comes with an industry leading 7 year warranty.
